“Single Men” captures the daily life and concerns of two middle-aged single gay men. Together with them, it revisits three decades of change in Chinese society for sexual minority communities. Moving to a new place, both single men prepare for a new life, yet at the same time they’re anxious about the future. They need to face the future alone. It’s a reality that needs to be addressed by all members of sexual minority communities in China.
Ah Ming is pondering how to renovate his new apartment in Guiyang. He just ended a long, time-consuming relationship, and looks forward to a less bumpy life in his new home.
Ah Shan just moved from Panyu to a rented apartment in Guangzhou city. After he retired, he started participating in LGBT community activities. He meets with his friends every day, yet he is anxious about his future. Living alone without a roommate or a partner, he cautiously looks ahead to what his old age might bring.
