On 14 January 2012, a big fire destroyed a house on 19 Weixian Street in Qingdao. The news reports on the incident were disseminated by large numbers of netizens, yet it wasn’t the fire itself that caused the massive attention; everybody was fascinated by the victim: a transgender garbage collector.
