On Jan 8th, it was reported that Leung Chun-ying, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, would announce, in his policy address on Jan 16th, whether a public consultation would be held on the enacting of sexual orientation anti-discrimination laws. To support the consultation, Labour Party lawmaker Cyd Ho Sau-lan, “out” pop singers Anthony Wong and Denise Ho and other friends, launched the Big Love Alliance on 11 January. The Big Love Alliance started an online campaign on China’s Weibo, calling for “one person, one photo, to support LGBT and fight discrimination”. Though Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying announced on 16 January not to go ahead with the public consultation, the online LGBT support grows louder than ever. On Weibo, Mainland netizens prove to be an impressive force in the fight against discrimination.
