On 24 November, the first Chinese case involving gay educational rights was informally heard through dialogue at the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate Court.
Qiu Bai and 10 classmates reported the fact that higher education materials treat homosexuality as an illness to the State Administration of Press & Publication and the Guangdong Education Department,
yet received no reply within the statutory time limit.
Thereupon, Qiu Bai sued the Ministry of Education. Since she filed the case in August, this 3rd year university student was put under pressure by her school, her family and society at large.
She waited till today to finally enter into an equal dialogue with the Ministry of Education.
