Queer paper cut workshop
June 22, 2018 @ 12:00 am
Do you like making things with your hands? Are you interested in traditional Chinese crafts? Do you like homoerotica? If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”, then the fifth instalment of Rainbow-worm will drive you into a frenzy of Sino-queer creativity, because this time we are bringing you a homoerotic, paper-cutting workshop with local artist, Xiyadie, the Siberian Butterfly!
Born in the countryside of Shaanxi province, the Siberian Butterfly was trained in the art of paper-cutting from an early age. One of the only male paper-cutters in China, he gradually started using his art to explore his own identity and sexuality, producing a rich, distinctive body of work that marries traditional techniques with a queer aesthetic. Rainbow-worm is now proud to invite him to the Bookworm to share his unique vision.
The event will commence with a screening of the Queer Comrades documentary profile, “The Siberian Butterfly”, followed by a Q&A with the artist himself. The heart of the event will be the interactive workshop, where the Siberian Butterfly will guide participants as they produce their own paper-cutting masterpieces.
So come to the Bookworm to unleash your creative side this summer! We can’t wait to see you there!
