“Mama Rainbow” takes part in the Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival
The 23rd Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival will take place from 16 November till 4 December 2012. It selected the documentary “Mama Rainbow”, a film co-produced by Queer Comrades, as part of its official programmation.
Directed by Fan Popo, youngest recipient of the Prism Award of 22nd Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, Mama Rainbow features 6 mothers from all over China, who talk openly and freely about their experiences with their gay and lesbian children. With their love, they are giving a whole new definition to Chinese-style family bonds. For Chinese parents, finding out that their child gay usually presents a major tragedy, with the big majority utterly unable to accept the truth. However, during recent years, a pioneering generation of Chinese parents has been stepping up and speaking out on their love for their gay and lesbian children.
There will be 2 screenings of Mama Rainbow at the festival.
17 November, 17:50pm: AMC Festival Walk, Level U/G, Festival Walk, 80 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon Tong, Kowloon
19 November, 19:35pm: Broadway Cinematheque, Prosperous Garden, 3 Public Square Street (MTR Yau Ma Tei – Exit C)
Director & Cast will be in attendance at both screenings.
On 18 November, 18:00pm, at Volume Beat, the festival also organizated a debate between director Fan Popo and a group of Hong Kong parents of gay children.
