In August 2014, Chinese feminist and LGBTI activist Wei Tingting undertakes an exciting exploration of queer India. During one month, she travels all around the country to connect with fellow comrades and participate in queer community activities. Her queries lead her to New Delhi, Calcutta, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bangalore. She participates in the Fifth Women’s World Congress, visits a Transgender sanctuary, screens Chinese queer movies for lesbian groups, and participates in an Indian wedding.
Talking to the various feminist and LGBTI activists she meets on her way, Wei Tingting uncovers the ins and outs of gender and sexuality in India, and experiences how queer activism is changing lives. In the documentary “Queer India”, Wei Tingting takes you on an expedition to the contemporary queer heart beating inside Indian society. Join her for an inspiring journey into a land of many cultures!
