The categories for 2014
Pride Photo Award is a contest for photos about sexual (LGBT) and gender diversity. We are looking for top quality photography on the following topics:
- non-stereotypical images of gender, masculinity and femininity
- the diversity of the LGBT community
Photos that fit these topics can be entered in one of four categories. The four categories for the 2014 edition of Pride Photo Award are:
GENDER
This is a broad thematic category for photos that show people with a gender identity that is different from the male/female gender stereotypes. We are looking for images showing that gender is not binary (man/woman) but a continuum with countless variations. Everyone has male and female sides to their personality. This category covers the spectrum of sexual identities and people who have both male and female physical characteristics.
DOCUMENTARY
This is a broad category for photos that document an aspect of sexual and gender diversity. Documentary photography may include news photography and current topics that have been in the news between January 1st, 2012 and the closing date of the contest. Photos need not have been published.
OPEN CATEGORY
Photos about sexual and gender diversity that do not fit in any of the above categories may be entered in this category.
GETTING CLOSER: 2014 THEME CATEGORY
“If your photographs aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.” This famous quote by Robert Capa, legendary photographer and founder of Magnum, inspired the theme of the 2014 edition of Pride Photo Award.
The theme Getting Closer can be interpreted in many ways, such as:
- getting close to the subject of your photographs
- the intimacy between people who grow closer during their relationship
- the way perceptions change when the distance between people is eliminated
- getting closer to the goal of furthering acceptance of LGBT people
Some photos will fit in more than one of the above categories. Any single photo can be entered in one category only.
