CALL FOR ENTRIES
Share your work with an international audience
ATTENTION: NEW DEADLINE! The deadline has been moved from May 31st to Saturday June 8th 23:59 CET.
Pride Photo Award, the contest dedicated to sexual and gender diversity, is calling for entries from April 23rd – June 8th 2013. Photographers from all over the world are welcome to submit their works on the official contest page. Participants can enter one or more of the four categories of the competition: Documentary, Gender, Open, and the annual theme category, ‘Extremely Normal.’ This year, Pride Photo Award honours photographers that make extraordinary photos of ordinary LGBT people (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender).
Share your vision with the world! The First Prize winners in each category will be flown to one of the undisputed art capitals of the word: Amsterdam. They will attend the Awards Ceremony on Friday, August 23rd. During the opening weekend they will be accommodated in the artistic Lloyd Hotel.
For one month, photos from the winning series will be displayed at Amsterdam’s historic Old Church. The exhibition is expected to draw at least 10.000 visitors, as well as media exposure. A selection of winning photos will be shown on large photo panels (2×2 meters) throughout Amsterdam. A travelling exhibition will follow in other Dutch cities and possibly abroad.
A jury of five internationally acclaimed photography professionals will judge this year’s edition of Pride Photo Award. They will give their final verdict in June, when the winners will be officially announced.
Spread the word! Please forward this Call for Entries to photographers working with gender or sexual diversity and encourage them to participate. We are grateful for your help in reaching as many photographers as possible!

The categories for 2013
The four categories for the 2013 edition of Pride Photo Award are:
Gender
This is a broad thematic category for photos that show people with a gender identity that is different from the male/female gender stereotypes. We are looking for images showing that gender is not binary (man/woman) but a continuum with countless variations. Everyone has male and female sides to their personality. This category covers the spectrum of sexual identities and people who have both male and female physical characteristics.
Documentary
This is a broad category for photos that document an aspect of sexual and gender diversity. Documentary photography may include news photography and current topics that have been in the news between January 1st, 2011 and May 31st, 2013. Photos need not have been published.
Open Category
Photos about sexual and gender diversity that do not fit in any of the above categories may be entered in this category.
Extremely Normal: 2013 theme category
Extremely Normal is the antithesis to the media cliché that represents the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community with extravagant photos of drag queens or half-naked men dancing on a boat. The LGBT community is just as ordinary, exciting and conventional as everyone else. This year’s challenge is to make extraordinary photos of ordinary (LGBT) people. Photos of everyday life that grab you and will stick in your mind for days.
